Hello everyone!

My name is Monica Slaback, I am a second year here at the U of A. My major s currently Japanese and I am minoring in East Asian Studies, although this might change in the future depending on if I can get a translation certificate or not. I was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Yes I am American, and proud of it! 🙂

Fun facts about me?I am the vice president of the KSA club here at the U of A. For those of you who wish to know, it is basically a Pokemon club. I’ve been to Japan once about 3 and a half years ago with my high school when I knew very little Japanese (I ended up getting lost and somehow managed to find a fluent speaker of English to help me find my way back to the meeting place, lucky me). I love the Japanese culture and history, so this course has been a blast for me!

For this project, I will be looking into he anime Afro Samurai, and how North American culture made it a melting pot for Japanese and Western culture and the inaccuracies represented in this source.
